Bored with God?

Do you feel bored regarding your relationship with God? I believe that if we are honest, we have all experienced a time when our passion and excitement for God has been more like an ember than a blaze.

We know that God never changes. His character, His grace, His mercy, and His love are perfect and eternal. So why do we feel distant and cold at times in our spiritual lives? Why are we bored with God?

As with any intimate relationship, we experience a honeymoon period with God. A time when our focus and energy seem to come without effort. We experience a period where our passion drives our perception and inspires us to press in deeper into the relationship.

God tells us that when we stop pursuing Him, then we have left our first love. In a society where marriages and families are subject to the whims of our emotions, it is not difficult to imagine that many of us struggle with our relationship with God.

God tells us the greatest commandment is: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’” (Mark 12:30 ESV)

I believe this commandment is for our benefit, not God’s ego. There is no safer, more fulfilling place than in the presence of our Father. It is so important that He sent His Son to die for us so we could be with Him.

How do we enter into the presence of God?

(John 14:6-7 ESV) Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

How do we remain in the presence of God?

(John 15:5-11 ESV) I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing… As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.

We experience intimacy with the Father through His Son and His Spirit… one conversation at a time.

So, if we want an intimate and exciting relationship with God, then we must seek him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength!

Heart on Fire

“Start a Fire” (Unspoken)

(Chorus)
Start a fire in my soul
Fan the flame and make it grow
So there’s no doubt or denying
Let it burn so brightly
That everyone around can see
That it’s You, that it’s You that we need
Start a fire in me
