THE “ONE” THING

In the early 1990’s, there was a dude-ranch themed comedy starring Billy Crystal as Mitch. The movie portrayed three middle-aged men looking for something to give meaning to their lives. Jack Palance played a crotchety old ranch hand named Curly. In one scene, as Mitch and Curly are riding alone, Curly points his index finger skyward as the following dialog ensues:

Curly: Do you know what the secret of life is?… This.
Mitch: Your finger?
Curly: One thing. Just one thing. You stick to that and the rest don’t mean “nothing”.
Mitch: But, what is the one thing?
Curly smiling, says: That’s what you have to find out.

For Christians, one of the biggest questions involves God’s will for our life.

God’s word tells us the answer…

“BELIEVE!”

Believing never stops… It continues as we walk by faith each day… as we walk with God.

We can’t fast forward “our” movie to find God’s will and we can’t watch the “trailer” of our life to get a preview… We find God’s will as each scene of our life is lived out in faith and dependence on Him.

Let’s not get too busy doing for God that we fail to spend time quietly being with and abiding in Him. It is the daily walking with Christ through the guidance of the Holy Spirit that accomplishes God’s will.

When we seek Him first everyday and abide in Him, we will bear much fruit. Everything else is from the overflow of our intimacy with Him.

So, we BELIEVE and keep on believing, day by day, minute by minute! That is what it means to walk by faith. That is His will for His children.

John 6:28-29 (The work of God, “Believe”)
John 6:40 (The will of God, “Believe”)
Matthew 6:33 (Seek God, first priority)
John 15:5 (Abide in the Jesus, continually)

NASU Heb 11:1,6: “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. … And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”
